East Coast Family History Trip 2006
Between March 20th and 29th, 2006, we visited Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland to further research our family's history in the area. This gallery contains a small sample of our 2000 images.

Chester Meeting

The current building dates to 1817, but the meeting dates to the late 1600s. It is believed George & Alice Maris (9GGP) were buried here.

Original site of the First German Reformed Church in Baltimore. The church stood right in the middle of the road, but was torn down as a result of progress

5 S Gay Street

This address is that of Baltzer Bentzel (5GGF) until his death in 1816. Whether this is the original building or not is unknown

Christ Lutheran Church

Christ Lutheran Church is located in downtown York, Pennsylvania. David Kump & Barbara Naylor (3GGP) were married here in 1825

Independence Hall

The Declaration of Indepedence was debated in this building

Congress

This hall was the original location of the House of Representatives and the Senate after the American Revolution. Presidence George Washington was inaugurated in this room

Washington's crossing of the Delaware took place at this point. The far side is Pennsylvania and the near side New Jersey

This beautiful monument celebrates Washington's victory by displaying the flags of the 13 states of the original colonies, the colonial flag, and the current United States flag

Kalmar Nyckel

The Kalmar Nyckel, a reproduction of the original 17th century tall ship that carried Timem Stiddem (9GGF) to New Sweden in 1638

Major General Anthony Wayne's burial at St. David's Episcopal Church. He was one of General Washington's loyal officers

Vanleer Home

The home of Captain Samuel Vanleer (7GGU) of the Revolutionary War

Blue Ball Inn

The Blue Ball Tavern is part of Dr. Bernard Vanleer's original estate

Vanleer Cabin

This cabin is believed to have been built between 1800 and 1820, a period in which Isaac Vanleer (7GGU) owned the property.

Beehive House

The Beehive House in Thornbury, Pennsylvania, is originally Richard Woodward Jr's (8GGF) home

This bedroom is likely the birthplace of Richard & Deborah Woodward's (8GGP) children. Note the original flooring and ceiling joists

After moving from Thornbury, Richard Woodward Jr (8GGF) built a home in 1724 in Bradford Township. This home is now just outside Marshallton

Concord Meeting is the likely burial place of John & Elizabeth Mendenhall (8GGP)

Bentzel Plantation

The original Bentzel Plantation near Shiloh, Pennsylvania. It is unknown at present the exact date of this structure, although it is believe to be circa 1790

Bentzel Mill

The original mill built by David (4GGU) and Elizabeth Bentzel in 1831 still stands near Shiloh, Pennsylvania. The mill is a 6-story building (including attic and basement) that is deteriorating rapidly

Bentzel Mill Bridge

The Bentzel Mill Bridge was originally a covered bridge but was washed away following a hurricane. Its remanants are visible here

4th Floor

View of the 4th floor of Bentzel Mill. The mill has obviously been utilized as a chicken coop which has caused most of the structure to deteriorate more rapidly
